Celebrate VE days' 75th anniversary on the 8th of May!
Updated: May 5, 2020
Next week, the 8th of May marks the 75th anniversary of VE day. Whilst many events and street parties have unfortunately been cancelled you can still show your support!
Here are some ideas...
Make some VE day bunting to hang outside. Ideas for doing this can be found here. This same web-page also gives you details for contacting your local BBC radio station if you would like to share your stories.
The British Legion are inviting you to join them for a 45-minute live video stream as they bring the World War Two generation together with today’s generation to chat about their shared experiences. They will be sharing stories and memories from those who served and sacrificed during the Second World War, as well as recognising the difficulties people are experiencing today.
Hosted by TV presenter Sonali Shah, the programme will feature contributions from social historian Julie Summers, and cook and influencer Melissa Helmsley. This will take place at 11:15am on the 8th of May here
At 9pm on the 8th May - join a nationwide rendition of Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again' More info here I'm quite excited about this one as I'll think it will be lovely to hear the nation singing!
Leave your mark and a message on the British Legions VE day message board here
Listen to a new song written to celebrate the roles of women during the second world war. Performed by Mumbo-Jumbo and featuring Edwina Hayes,
this song has been specially written for the VE Day 75 Celebrations’ Toast to the Heroes. The song celebrates the vital role of the Homefront in bringing peace to the nation. Six Million Women (The Homefront Song)
Heres a poster to help you plan a 'stay at home' Street Party
